Farmers' Body Calls For Marches To Raj Bhawans Across India On Nov 26 To Mark 2nd Anniversary Of Their Protest

Farmer leaders said that preparations for the Raj Bhavan marches are underway in different states and preparatory meetings are being held.

The Samtyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Tuesday called for "Raj Bhavan marches" across the country on November 26 to commemorate the second anniversary of the farmers' agitation against the now-repealed three farm laws, news agency PTI reported.

The SKM, an umbrella body of several farm unions, said in a statement that a meeting will be held in Delhi on November 14 to finalise the Raj Bhavan marches and to finalise the memorandum to be submitted to governors across the country.

"In the meeting, it was decided that large marches of farmers to the Raj Bhavans will be held on November 26 to mark two years of the historic SKM-led farmers' struggle," the SKM statement said, PTI reported.

The call to organise nationwide marches to Raj Bhavan was issued during an online meeting of the SKM coordination and drafting committees. The meeting was attended by farmer leaders Hannan Mollah, Darshan Pal, Yudhvir Singh, Medha Patkar, Rajaram Singh, Atul Kumar Anjan, Satyavan, Ashok Dhawale, Avik Saha, Sukhdev Singh, Raminder Singh, Vikas Shishir and Dr Sunilam.

Farmer leaders said that preparations for the Raj Bhavan marches are underway in different states and preparatory meetings are being held, PTI reported.

They condemned the changes made by the Central Government to the Forest Conservation Act rules.

On the occasion of the martyr Birsa Munda's birth anniversary on November 15, they also decided to express solidarity with tribal organisations fighting for their rights.

Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana, occupied Delhi's borders in November 2020, demanding that the Centre repeal three farm laws passed earlier that year.

The farm laws were repealed by the Narendra Modi government in November 2021, after which the SKM announced to suspend their over a-year-long agitation.

Protesting farmers had refused to clear the protest sites in order to demand, among other things, the withdrawal of cases against farmers, legal guarantees on MSP, and compensation for the kin of farmers who died during the protest.
