Fact Check | Govt Giving Rs 5,000 To Citizens As Covid Relief Fund? Claims Are False

A variety of messages are going viral on social media (Social Media). A message claims that the Government of India is paying Rs 5,000 through the corona fund.

New Delhi: The Central Government has provided a variety of assistance to the poor and needy of the country during the first and second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. As third wave of Coronavirus has hit the country, a variety of such messages are going viral on social media.

One being the government providing a monetary assistance of Rs 5,000 to every Indian through its Covid fund.

Claim: Government Giving Rs. 5,000

Many fake messages are going viral on social media during the Coronavirus period. Recently, a message was going viral claiming that the Government of India was paying Rs 5,000 from the corona fund. The message asked the readers to fill out a form to get Rs 5,000. 

FACT CHECK

When the Press Information Bureau (PIB) came to know about the viral message, they fact-checked it and reported that the message was completely FAKE. PIB tweeted about it on its official Twitter account.

In the tweet, PIB clarified that a fake message claims that an amount of Rs 5,000 is being provided under the Covid-19 fund by the Health Ministry of the Government of India. 

"It is being claimed in a fake message that an amount of Rs 5,000 is being provided by the Ministry of Health, Government of India under the Corona Fund. Do not forward such fake messages. Do not share any of your personal information on such dubious websites," PIB tweeted.

Beware Of Such Messages

PIB has termed the message as completely fake after the fact check. PIB said that everyone should be careful of such messages that are going viral on social media. PIB asks people not to forward such messages further. PIB said that one risks their personal information and money by being misled by such messages.
