The much awaited DUSU election results have been announced and the Rashtriya Swayamsewi Sang (RSS) affiliate Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won the polls as it bagged three out of the four seats.

New Delhi: The much awaited Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) election results have been announced and the Rashtriya Swayamsewi Sang (RSS) affiliate Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won the polls as it bagged three out of the four seats. Congress-backed National Students' Union of India (NSUI) came second as it managed to win only one seat. According to reports, ABVP candidates Akshit Dahiya, Pradeep Tanwar and Shivangi Kharwal got the maximum votes for the posts of President, Vice-president and Joint-secretary. The only winner from NSUI was Aakash Choudhary, who managed to defeat his opponent for the post of DUSU secretary. As many as 16 candidates were in the fray for the four DUSU posts --  president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary-- which are elected for a term of one year to form student union's central panel. The NSUI pitted Chetna Tyagi for the post of president, Ankit Bharti for vice-president, Ashish Lamba for secretary and Abhishek Chaprana for joint secretary. News agency PTI stated that the counting of votes began late after a delay of almost two hours as the candidates turned up late. The voting turnout was recorded at 39.90 per cent this year — over four notches down from the last year. Last year, the election saw a 44.46 per cent voter turnout. The polling for four positions of (DUSU) ended amid allegations of EVM malfunctioning. Sixteen candidates included 4 women, who were in the fray and 52 polling centres were set up. Over 1.3 lakh students were eligible to cast their vote in Delhi University's Student Union election. Around 144 EVMs were used for students' union polls and 137 were used for college union polls.  Polling took place on Thursday for morning colleges at 9.30 am and ended at 1 pm and for evening colleges at 3 pm and ended at 7.30 pm. Even in 2018, ABVP won three posts, including that of the president, while the NSUI could only manage to win only one seat. There were long queues to cast votes as Law Faculty, Miranda House and Ramjas College. According to Delhi police, as many as 400 personnel were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
