DGCA Grounds IndiGo Pilot For Taking Off Baku-Bound Flight Without ATC Clearances

According to the DGCA, the Baku-bound IndiGo plane took off without clearances of ATC.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the regulatory authority for aviation in India, has grounded a pilot accused of taking off an IndiGo flight bound for Baku without obtaining the necessary clearances from Air Traffic Controllers (ATC). According to the DGCA, the Baku-bound IndiGo plane took off without clearances of ATC, reported the news agency ANI. "The DGCA has begun an investigation where an IndiGo plane from Delhi to Baku has taken off without ATC clearances," it said.

According to ANI, a top DGCA official has confirmed that the IndiGo pilot of flight 6E-1803 has been off from duty till the investigation.

"The pilots of IndiGo's January 29, 2024, Delhi-Baku flight (6E 1803) have been removed from flying duty as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) investigates whether they took off without the required air traffic control (ATC) clearance," the DGCA further added.

According to ANI's report, the IndiGo flight departed at around 7:38 pm.

In reaction to the event, IndiGo has said that an internal inquiry is in progress and that suitable measures would be taken in light of the results.

It said, "With reference to reports around IndiGo flight 6E 1803 operating between Delhi and Baku on January 28, 2024, the incident is currently under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken as necessary."

In a separate instance, IndiGo was recently hit with a heavy fine of Rs 1.2 crore by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) after travelers were seen eating on the tarmac while waiting for a delayed flight, ANI reported. The BCAS determined that this infraction constituted a significant breach of security regulations, hence requiring a significant penalty.

In another incident, an angry passenger was captured on camera physically attacking a pilot of an IndiGo flight. The attack took place as the captain was informing the passengers about the delays.
