Deoria shelter home case: Inmates claim three missing girls were sold to foreigners

New Delhi: In a major revelation in the Deoria Shelter Home case, the inmates claimed that out of the 18 missing girls, three were sold to foreigners , one died under mysterious circumstances, while the whereabouts of the remaining 14 girls are still not known. While talking to the inmates of the Vindhyavasini shelter home it was found that the managers allegedly forced some of the girls into prostitution by sending them to Gorakhpur on regular basis. One of the girls said: “Different cars that came at around 4 pm  took one of the inmates and returned in the morning". She added: "When didi returned she was crying. Badi Ma'am used to take them.” When other inmates were asked the question, same answer was received. On being asked, another girl informed that few girls were taken regularly to “ma’am ji’s room” in Gorakhpur and were made to indulge in ‘wrong activities’ and each girl was made to "stay with two men in one room.” The account clearly suggested sexual harassment of the girls. When other girl was asked about the missing 18 girls, she said that two or three have been married off, some have fled, while some died under mysterious circumstances. The ‘horror’ home for girls was sealed in the presence of senior district authorities on Monday night and the documents related to it were seized, after two and a half hours of search conducted by the authorities. Also, the District Magistrate of Deoria, Sujit Kumar, was sacked from his post and the DM of Etah, Amit Kishore, was appointed as the replacement of Kumar after the alleged racket came to light on Monday. Police on Sunday rescued 24 girls from the said shelter home. However it is reported that there were 42 girls inmates in it. Question about what exactly happened to the rest 18 girls is still unanswered.
