Delhi Women's Panel Says Pregnant Woman Set On Fire By In-Laws, Victim Calls It 'Accident'

However, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, alleged that the woman's husband and in-laws lit her ablaze.

In Bawana, outside of Delhi, a youngster threw paint thinner into a bonfire, causing burns to a pregnant woman and her husband who were sitting beside it, according to police, news agency PTI reported.

However, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, alleged that the woman's husband and in-laws lit her ablaze.

The event happened on Friday night as Khusboo, who is seven months pregnant, her husband Veer Pratap, and a kid were huddled around a bonfire to stay warm, according to the police.

The youngster threw paint thinner into the fire as it was about to go out, which immediately made it spread. According to the authorities, Khusboo had "superficial" burns to her face, arms, and legs, while her husband suffered burns to his legs and left hand.

According to them, they are both receiving treatment at the Safdarjung Hospital.

According to a senior police official, Khusboo's testimony was recorded in which she claimed the incident was accidental.

The woman's husband and in-laws allegedly lit her fire after dousing her in gasoline, according to DCW chief Maliwal.

"In Bawana, the husband and in-laws of a seven months pregnant woman set her ablaze after pouring petrol on her. The woman sustained severe burn injuries and is now undergoing treatment at a hospital," DCW Chief tweeted.

"We have issued a notice to Delhi Police. We are also providing all possible help to the victim. Crimes are increasing in Delhi," Maliwal further said.
