Flight Ops Hit In Delhi As Dense Fog Blankets North India, Cold Wave Prevails

A thick layer of fog could be seen over Delhi and other regions of north India as cold weather conditions prevail.

Fog continued to blanket several states in northern India on Monday including the national capital as cold weather conditions prevail in the region. A layer of thick fog could be seen over the national capital lowering the visibility on Monday morning.

The Indian Meteorological Department published a satellite imagery showing fog layer spreading over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh.

People in these regions could be seen lighting bonfires and sitting beside it in a bid to keep themselves warm amid the cold weather conditions.

The dense layer of fog affected flight schedules at Delhi airport. As per airport officials, the arrival and departure of flights, including international flights, was delayed for about 30 minutes, due to dense fog, reported ANI.

Visibility at other airports in northern India such as Amritsar, Lucknow, and Palam has also dipped due to dense fog.

"100m visibility prevailing over Amritsar Airport since 2100 hrs IST of today, has now dropped down to 50m. Current Visibility over Lucknow and Palam airports are 800 & 1000m respectively and likely to fall further to 500m and below during next 6 hours," said the IMD in a post on X.

On Monday, several places in Haryana and Punjab experienced low visibility due to dense fog including Sirsa, Bhiwani, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala, as per a PTI report.

Up north, minimum temperature continued to dip in most parts of Kashmir while dense fog disrupted daily life in the Valley early on Monday, reported PTI.

Jammu and Kashmir summer capital, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius, a slight decrease from the previous night's minus 2.1 degrees, said the officials.
