Delhi Freezes As North India Reels Under Cold Wave. Flight, Train Ops Still Hit
Flight and train operations continued to remain affected due to dense fog in Delhi.
Train and flight operations continue to remain affected in Delhi and several parts of north India due to dense fog as a result of cold wave. As many as 18 trains to Delhi from various parts of the country were running late on Thursday due to dense fog, reported ANI. Several flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi airport were also hit due to fog conditions leaving passengers stuck at the airport.
"I have come from Bahrain. My flight was delayed by one hour," a passenger at Delhi airport told news agency ANI.
The dense fog brought down the visibility ranging between 50 and 100 metres from 12.30 am to 6.30 am at Delhi's IGI airport, reported PTI. According to the weather office, very dense fog is when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres, between 51 and 200 metres is dense, between 201 and 500 metres moderate, and between 501 and 1,000 metres shallow.

India Meteorological Department, in its press release dated January 17, 2024 stated that dense to very dense fog and cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely to continue to prevail over North India during next 4-5 days.
The weather department also issued a yellow alert for moderate to dense fog at isolated places in the city for the next two days.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season's average, as per the weather department.
The national capital logged an Air Quality Index of 368 at 9 am, according to data by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.
