Delhi Riots Gunman Shahrukh Had A Notorious Past, His Father Was Drug Peddler; 10 Things To Know

New Delhi: Weeks after he was caught on camera brandishing a pistol at policeman during the riots which rocked northeast Delhi, the infamous Shahrukh Pathan was nabbed by Delhi Police on Tuesday from Shamli in Uttar Pradesh. On February 24, Sharukh was seen confronting an unarmed Delhi Police Constable Deepak Dahia during the violence at Delhi's Maujpur area. The accused has been brought to Delhi and report states that the Delhi Police Crime Branch is now planning to pin down his entire family for spreading violence in the area. In a video that went viral on social media last week, the man, identified as 33-year-old Shahrukh, could be seen pointing a country-made pistol at the policeman on the Jaffrabad-Maujpur road. He later also fire as many as eight rounds in the presence of police personnel. According to a report by news agency IANS, Shahrukh along with his family members has a chequered history of crime. Here are 10 points about the accused you must know: i. After the video went viral, Shahrukh went missing from the national capital. The Delhi Police launched a massive manhunt to nab him. ii. On Tuesday, he was arrested from Shamli in Uttar Pradesh, where he was hiding for the last 5-6 days. iii. Two teams of Delhi Police were formed to nab Shahrukh - Delhi Police crime branch and Delhi Police special cell. iv. Multiple raids were conducted in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and finally the crime branch team headed by A.K. Singla succeeded in nabbing Shahrukh from Shamli on Tuesday. v. Shahrukh is a resident of street no. 5 of Arvind Nagar under Usmanpur police station of Jafrabad. vi. His father, Shawar Pathan, who came to Delhi in 1985, has been to jail on charges of drug peddling, according to Delhi Police. vii. Speaking to news agency IANS, an office of the SIT informed that Police will try to get the remand of Shahrukh and will confront him with several questions such as why did he go to  Shamli, who gave him the pistol, who instigated him to open fire during the riots and who else in his family knew that he possessed a revolver? viii. The news agency also stated that Shahrukh and his family went seeking refuge to several relatives after the video went viral and the police were after them. The police went to his house on February 28 and found it locked. ix. Sources also informed the news agency that Shahrukh was given shelter in Bareilly by one of the friends of his father who is also allegedly a drug supplier. x. Interestingly, some media reports also claim that Shahrukh used to make TikTok videos and aspired to become a model. The anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests turned into deadly communal violence in northeast Delhi on February 25 when violent mob charred houses, shops, petrol pumps, indulged in stone-pelting and looted people. The death toll in the violence currently stands at 46 while over 200 are said to be injured. Delhi Police have begun an extensive probe into the riots, registering 335 FIRs out of which 40 are related to murder and arresting more than a thousand people. The Delhi Police have maintained a studied silence on the investigation into the riots. According to reports, two Special Investigation Teams (SITs), which include one additional commissioner of police, 2 deputy commissioners of Police, 8 assistant commissioners of police, are probing the riot cases.
