Delhi Police Refutes Tension Rumors, Asks Citizens To Stay Calm

Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa confirmed that some anti-social elements were spreading such rumors to disturb peace in the city. The Delhi police officer advised people neither to spread nor trust the rumors and assured that the law and order situation of the national capital is completely under control

New Delhi: Putting an end to rumors of violence in the national capital, Delhi Police on Sunday dismissed news of tension in some areas of Delhi. There were reports of tension in Rohini and Uttam Nagar areas, which the Delhi Police quickly denied. The Deputy Commissioner of Police of West Delhi South-East also maintained that the situation in those areas is absolutely peaceful. The police have warned the rumour mongers for legal action and asked the citizens to stay alert. Delhi Police detained two suspects from Rohini for allegedly spreading rumors in the national capital. The Delhi police officer advised people neither to spread nor trust the rumors and assured that the law and order situation of the national capital is completely under control. “Law and order is completely under control in Delhi and the situation is peaceful. Rumors are being dealt with vigorously. The citizens of Delhi should fulfill their responsibility and help in maintaining peace.", said Delhi PRO MS Randhawa. "We've received some panic calls from West Delhi, South East Delhi, Madanpur Khadar, Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar,& Khayala, please don't entertain them. Situation is normal at these places.Police are monitoring social media&will take action against rumour mongers," he added. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Sunday evening closed a few stations, but announced reopening them within half an hour. Some of these stations were: Tilak Nagar, Nangloi, Surajmal Stadium, Badarpur, Tughlakabad, Uttam Nagar West and Nawada stations. The DMRC's sudden decisions came around 8p.m. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) tweeted: "Rumour is the biggest enemy. A rumour has been noticed that there is some tension in Khyala-Raghubir Nagar area of West District. There is no truth behind it. All are requested to keep calm as the situation is absolutely normal and peaceful."
