Delhi Police Recovers Over 3000 Fake Amphotericin-B Injections Used For Treating Black Fungus; 10 Arrested
Divulging more information in this regard, Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Monika Bhardwaj said a person identified as Dr Altmas Hussain, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, was arrested during the investigation.
New Delhi: Delhi Police Crime Branch have arrested 10 people and busted a gang involved in black marketing of Amphotericin B, the antifungal medicine used in the treatment of black fungus infection.
Divulging more information in this regard, Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Monika Bhardwaj said a person identified as Dr Altmas Hussain, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, was arrested during the investigation.
“He accepted to have purchased 300 expired vials of Amphotericin B. He repackaged and distributed Piperacillin/Tazobactam medicine as Amphotericin B,” ANI quoted Bhardwaj as saying.
The top cop further said the police during its investigation recovered 3,000 vials of anti-fungal injections from a house in South Delhi’s Nizamuddin area.
“Investigation is underway to ascertain if all injections are fake. However, it is clear that all injections of Amphotericin B were fake,” she added.
This comes just days after the police in Andhra Pradesh’s Hyderabad arrested nine people in connection with allegedly illegally procuring and selling Amphotericin B.

The accused were arrested late on Thursday night for illegally procuring and selling black fungus injections in Hyderabad.
“On Thursday, sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force of West Zone team laid a trap and nabbed two gangs comprising 9 persons, in Hyderabad’s SR Nagar and Banjara Hills police station limits for indulging in a illegally procuring and selling Amphotericin B,” Hyderabad City Commissioner Anjani Kumar told the media.
