Sisodia To Meet Delhi Lt Governor After Allegation Of Terminating ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ Programme

The meeting is slated to take place as the Delhi government has accused Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena of banning the flagship program which was slated to begin on November 1.

New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been given time to meet Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena after he sought an appointment to discuss the issue of the Aam Aadmi Party’s flagship programme ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’. The Delhi government has accused the Lieutenant Governor of terminating the flagship programme which was slated to begin on November 1.

According to sources at Lieutenant Governor's office, Sisodia has been given an appointment to meet VK Saxena at 7 pm today. The sources also claimed that the Delhi government has not sent the file related to the Yogashala program and hence, the initiative was not approved.

This comes after Manish Sisodia issued a show cause notice to the secretary of the Directorate of Training and Technical Education on Tuesday, alleging him of trying to discontinue the AAP’s ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’, announced by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 13, 2021.

Under this programme, the Delhi government provides free yoga instructors in the national capital. 590 yoga classes are conducted daily in Delhi in which around 17,000 people learn yoga practices.

“Dilli ki Yogshala is to promote meditation and yoga not just in Delhi but also to inspire the whole country. Even the Prime Minister promotes yoga by organising promotional events on the International Day of Yoga. Despite knowing that the Dilli ki Yogshala is a flagship project of the government of NCT, wrongly and forcibly tried to discontinue it and sabotage the efforts of the Delhi government to provide yoga classes for thousands of Delhiites,” read the notice issued by Sisodia.

“I have been told that in the 28th meeting of the Board of Governors (BOG) on September 30, upon the insistence of the secretary (TTE) it was decided to discontinue the programme. I have also been informed that while many members of the board of governors wanted to continue the current programme, the secretary (TTE) took a strong stand against it and said that this programme could not be continued,” it mentioned.

'The government not only wants to take this programme forward but also wants to increase its scale, then in such a situation, after discussing with the minister concerned, how did it decide to stop it?’ the notice further read.
