Delhi man beaten to death on suspicion of being 'battery' thief
The police have filed a case under section 304 and have arrested one accused.
New Delhi: In a shocking incident, an autorickshaw driver was beaten to death allegedly by a mob on suspicion of him being a battery thief in southwest Delhi's Uttam Nagar, police said on Sunday.
Two other men were also thrashed on the suspicion of being thieves, they added. The incident took place when two men boarded the autorickshaw driven by victim Avinash Kumar on Saturday, the police said. After this, they asked Kumar to wait for them and got off while the autorickshaw driver went to urinate, they added.
When he came back, he saw a crowd thrashing the men, the police added. The duo told the mob that Kumar was their leader, following which the crowd attacked him, they added. The duo had allegedly stolen batteries and kept them in Kumar's autorickshaw, the police said. One of the accused was nabbed, while the others were yet to be identified, they added.
The police have filed a case under section 304 and have arrested one accused.
