Delhi Violence: 14 Arrested, Inspector Mentions 'Attempt To Create Communal Tension' In FIR

New Delhi: Five more accused persons were arrested in connection with Jahangirpuri violence while the investigation is in progress, DCP North-West Usha Rangnani on Sunday.
Delhi Police informed that one of the accused who opened fire was among those arrested. The pistol used in the commission of the crime has been recovered from his possession, it added.
With this, a total of 14 persons have been arrested so far in connection with the case, news agency ANI reported.

Clashes broke out after stone-pelting incidents were reported from the Jahangirpuri area in the national capital on Saturday evening during Shobha Yatra.
Inspector Rajeev Ranjan who was deployed in the Jahangirpuri Police Station area said that the procession was underway peacefully but "when it reached near C-Block mosque, a man with his four-five others started arguing with those taking part in the procession. Later, stone pelting started from both sides."
"Police engaged in security for the religious procession separated the two groups but after some time clashes erupted between the two sides. On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, there was an attempt to create communal tension by stone-pelting," the Inspector mentioned in his FIR statement, as quoted by ANI.

As per DCP North-West Usha Rangnani, nine persons including eight police personnel and one civilian were injured in the incident. They are being treated in a hospital.
"One Sub-inspector sustained a bullet injury. His condition is stable," the DCP North-West informed, as reported by ANI.
Police officials said miscreants attacked police when they were trying to handle the situation on the spot.
Delhi police have deployed heavy security in the area. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana told ANI that the "situation is under control". He also appealed to citizens "not to pay heed to rumours and fake news on social media".
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also appealed to the people to maintain peace.
"The country cannot progress without peace, all people have to maintain peace, law and order. If needed, there is an agency, there is the police, whose responsibility is there. It is the responsibility of the central government to create peace and order in Delhi," he told reporters.
Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Commissioner of Police and Special Commissioner (law and order) and directed them to take all necessary action following the violence, news agency PTI reported sources as saying.
The home ministry is keeping a close watch on the situation and gave necessary directions to the Delhi Police, they informed.
