Delhi LG Accepted Apology, AAP Is Politicising Issue: 7 Suspended BJP MLAs Tell HC

Seven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that the Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has accepted their letter of apology.

Seven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that the Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has accepted their letter of apology. They also apprised the court that they will meet the Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly today.

Senior Advocate Kirti Uppal appearing for the BJP MLAs submitted before the bench of Justice Subramonium Prasad that the Delhi LG has accepted the apology letter by the suspended MLAs. They also told the court that they sent the copy of the letter to the Speaker of Delhi Assembly via email as well.

The counsel appearing for Delhi Assembly told the court that the MLA's should meet the Speaker.

However, the counsel appearing for MLAs told the court that AAP is politicising the issue by comparing it to Raghav Chadha's suspension from Lok Sabha.

The court then directed the MLAs to meet the Speaker today and if the matter is not sorted out, it will be taken up again by the high court tomorrow (February 22).

The judge also said that the court is not a political platform and will only decide on the question of law.

Earlier, on Tuesday while hearing the matter pertaining to the indefinite suspension of seven BJP MLAs from the Assembly for interrupting Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena's address asked the MLAs if they were willing to apologise for their conduct.

The MLAs were suspended after they repeatedly interrupted the LG's address to the legislative assembly that prompted action against them.

A bench of Justice Subramonium Prasad asked the counsels appearing for MLAs to take instructions on this after it was pointed out that a similar approach was adopted by the Supreme Court to end the suspension of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha.

Senior advocate Jayant Mehta representing the BJP MLAs told the court that they had no problem apologising to the LG.

The seven BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Ajay Mahawar, O P Sharma, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, Jitender Mahajan and Vijender Gupta - approached the high court challenging their indefinite suspension from the Assembly for interrupting LG Saxena's address.

The seven BJP MLAs were suspended after they interrupted Saxena multiple times during his address on February 15 as was he highlighting the achievements of the AAP government.
