Delhi Headed Towards 'Red Alert'? 4,099 Fresh Covid Cases Recorded, Positivity Rate Jumps To 6.46%

According to GRAP announced by Delhi government, if Covid positivity rate breaches five per cent mark and remains above it for two consecutive days, the city will be put under 'Red' Alert.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing surge in daily cases of Coronavirus in the national capital, Delhi on Monday recorded as many as 4,099 new Covid infections, 28 per cent more than yesterday and one death.

Positivity rate in the city has now jumped to 6.46 per cent.

The data shared in Delhi's Health Health bulletin comes hours after Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that 84 per cent of the infections reported in the city in the past two days were of the new Omicron variant.

While speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Jain also warned that Delhi is expected to report around 4,000 cases on Monday with the positivity rate jumping to 6.5 per cent.

Currently, 202 patients are admitted to the hospitals of Delhi for treatment, the minister informed.

Delhi Stares At More Curbs

Delhi has witnessed a gigantic jump in daily Coronavirus cases over the last few weeks. As the daily positivity rate in the capital city jumped over 0.5%, Delhi government implemented a yellow alert in the city - leading to night curfew, closure of schools, colleges, gyms and cinema halls.

Under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) announced by Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government, if Covid positivity rate breaches five per cent mark and remains above it for two consecutive days, the city will be put under 'Red' Alert.

Red Alert means a total curfew will be imposed in Delhi, including night curfew as well as weekend movement of people. However, some rexalations will be given based on guidelines prepared by the government.

On Sunday, Delhi reported as many as 3,194 new Covid-19 cases, a jump from 2,716 cases reported on Saturday. While Sunday’s tally was the highest single-day rise since May 20, the test positivity rate stood at 4.59 per cent.
