Delhi Cop Salutes Photojournalist Danish Siddiqui At Memorial Meet As India Mourns His Killing In Kandahar

Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani had also paid his condolences as he said he was deeply saddened to know that Danish Siddiqui was killed "while covering the Taliban atrocities in Kandahar".

New Delhi: In a moving instance, a Delhi cop was captured saluting photojournalist Danish Siddiqui at a memorial meet held on Saturday.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Reuters Chief Photographer Danish Siddiqui was killed in clashes that ensued in Kandahar's Spin Boldak district, a city in Afghanistan. He had been covering the situation in the violence-ridden region.

Danish Siddiqui was based in Delhi. He had received the Pulitzer Prize as part of the Photography staff of Reuters. The news of his death came in after the Taliban captured Spin Boldak district in Kandahar.

Danish's death shocked the world as several notable journalists, politicians, and patrons all over the world mourned his demise. People remembered the photojournalist's defining work that depicted several contemporary crises such as the Rohingya refugees, mass pyres during COVID second wave in India, farmers' protests, CAA-NRC protests, and more.

In a photo shared by the Press Club of India on Twitter, a Delhi cop can be seen saluting Danish Siddiqui's photos in order to pay his respect to the late journalist.

Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani had also paid his condolences. He said he was deeply saddened by the shocking reports that Danish Siddiqui was killed "while covering the Taliban atrocities in Kandahar".

"While I extend my heartfelt condolences to Sidiqqui’s family and also to our media family, I reiterate my government’s unwavering commitment to freedom of speech and protection of free media and journalists," he added.
