Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari Demands NRC In Delhi; To Meet Amit Shah

Hours after the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Saturday demanded a similar exercise in Delhi to identify illegal immigrants.

NEW DELHI: Hours after the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Saturday demanded a similar exercise in Delhi to identify illegal immigrants. Tiwari said he will meet Home Minister Amit Shah for the same. Speaking to the media, the BJP leader said there are close to 15 lakh illegal migrants in the national capital. "They should be listed and deported," Tiwari said. "The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is needed in Delhi as situation is becoming dangerous. Illegal immigrants who have settled here are the most dangerous, we will implement NRC here as well," he said. He is expected to meet Shah on Saturday evening, demanding the same, IANS quoted party sources as saying. Tiwari had raised a similar demand in May as well. "I firmly believe that illegal migrants in Delhi are depriving locals of their rights and opportunities. I have even met Muslims from the city who told me that NRC should be conducted in Delhi because criminal activities of illegal immigrants maligned the image of their community," Tiwari said. He stated that that the AAP government in Delhi should start the process to identify and evict Rohingyas and Bangladeshi living illegally in the national capital. "It is a very dangerous situation since many of these illegal immigrants have also acquired documents like Aadhaar and ration cards. Delhi government also needs to pay attention to it," he said. The much-awaited updated Final National Register of Citizens in Assam was released on Saturday, excluding names of over 19 lakh applicants. A total of 3,30,27,661 people had applied to be included in the NRC. Of them, 3,11,21,004 have been included in the document and 19,06,657 excluded, a statement from the NRC State Coordinator's office said here. The status of both inclusion and exclusion can be viewed online on the NRC website, www.nrcassam.nic.in. The final list was published at 10 am and the hard copies of the Supplementary List of Inclusions are available for public viewing at the NRC Seva Kendras (NSK), offices of the deputy commissioner and offices of the Circle Officer during office hours, the statement said. Any person who is not satisfied with the outcome can file appeal before the Foreigners Tribunals within 120 days. Assam government has earlier said those left out of the NRC will not be detained under any circumstances until the Foreigners Tribunals declare them as foreigners. The names of 1.9 crore people were published as Part Draft NRC on the midnight of December 31, 2017. On July 30 last year, the Complete Draft was released excluding over 40 lakh of 2.9 crore people. An additional 1,02,462 people were excluded in June this year, taking the total ineligible persons to 41,10,169.
