DDMA Meeting Today To Assess Covid Situation In Delhi After Positivity Rate Rises To 24%

Delhi reported 17 fatalities due to covid on Sunday, the highest in a day since June 13, 2021, and added 22,751 cases to its tally. Covid positivity rate soared to 23.53 percent.

New Delhi: Covid cases in Delhi have been on a rise despite the precautionary restrictions imposed by the administration. In an effort to further control the spread of coronavirus, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has been called a meeting today to review the situation in the national capital.

The meeting will be held virtually at noon today among various stakeholders. The discussion will likely be held on imposing further more restrictions. After the last meeting of DDMA held on January 4, the weekend lockdown in Delhi was announced.

Delhi government follows a colour-coded Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) against the current pandemic which allows them to impose restrictions as per the danger assessed by the administration.

As of now, GRAP Yellow Alert has been issued in Delhi which is the lowest threat rate as per the colour code which increases on Amber, Orange, and Red.

After the covid positivity rate in Delhi peaked at 23.53% more strict curbs can be introduced by DDMA.

Lockdown In Delhi?

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government in Delhi has, again and again, ruled the possibility of lockdown in Delhi as of now. Delhi government on Sunday assuaged fears of migrant workers and businessmen, saying to protect livelihoods, its attempt is to impose minimum Covid restrictions and not a lockdown.

"Rising Covid cases are a matter of concern but there is no need to panic. Very few people are getting hospitalised. Wearing a mask is very important. There will be no lockdown if you continue to wear a mask. There is no plan to impose a lockdown as of now," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.
