'Beti Darao, Brij Bhushan Bachao': Congress Attacks BJP Over Withdrawal Of POCSO Case Against WFI Chief

Cancellation report was filed by Delhi Police after father of the minor wrestler, on whose complaint case was registered under POCSO Act, claimed that Brij Bhushan did not sexually harass his daughter

The Congress party on Thursday targeted Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre after the Delhi Police filed a Cancelation report in the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) case against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. "Beti Darao, Brij Bhushan Bachao" (intimidate daughters and save Brijj Bhushan) is the new slogan of BJP, said Congress general secretary Rendeep Singh Surjewala who called it a "black day" for sports in the country.

"The Real Slogan is 'scare daughters, save Brij Bhushan'. Today is a 'black day' for Indian Sports. Today, Law of the land has crumbled and been crushed under the bulldozer of BJP's politics. Today, 'cry for justice' of India's daughters has been consigned to dustbin and buried by Modi Government," he said on Twitter.

"Today, the entire Government apparatus has been pressed into service to save the 'dictator's' favourite, one who is accused of sexual exploitation of our wrestlers," he added.

Party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also trained guns on BJP alleging nexus between government and police against the girl.

"After this, the entire system, the police, government ministers and MPs together stand against that girl and protection is given to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Today the slogan of the Bharatiya Janata Party is 'Beti Darao-Brij Bhushan Bachao'," she said.

Singh was booked by Delhi Police under two FIRs in which the first one relates to allegations by the minor wrestler and was registered under the POCSO Act while the second is related to outraging modesty.

The Cancellation report was filed by Delhi Police after the father of the minor wrestler, on whose complaint a case was registered under the POCSO Act, claimed that Brij Bhushan did not sexually harass his daughter, but discriminated against her.

In interviews with multiple news platforms, the minor wrestler's father said that the WFI chief had not sexually harassed his daughter, but his approach was "partial in nature against her". He said they levelled the charge of sexual harassment out of "anger" and that some of the claims made by them were "false".

"In the POCSO matter, after completion of the investigation, we have submitted a police report under section 173 Cr PC requesting for a cancellation of the case based upon statements of the complainant i.e., the father of the victim and the victim herself," the Delhi Police said.
