First Cyclonic Storm Of 2021 Likely To Hit India By May 16, Predicts IMD - These States Are Under Threat

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a cyclone storm in the Arabian Sea on May 16.

“It is very likely to move north-northwestwards across the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area and intensify gradually. It may intensify into a Cyclonic Storm east central Arabian Sea around May 16 and continue to move north-northwestwards,” the weather department said in a release.

The IMD has warned of rainfall in Lakshadweep Islands, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The weather department has warned of light to moderate rainfall at most places in Lakshadweep islands with heavy falls at isolated places on May 13 and heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely on May 14. With regard to wind warning, the IMD said squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep – Maldives area and equatorial Indian Ocean from May 14 morning. It is very likely to increase gradually becoming 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over the same region from May 15 morning.

The weather department said it is likely to increase gradually becoming Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area from May 16 morning.

The IMD warned of squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely along and off Kerala coast on May 14 and 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along and off Kerala - Karnataka coasts on May 15 and 16.

Besides, squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to prevail over Comorin-Maldives area during May 14-15 and squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off Maharashtra-Goa coasts on May 16.

The sea conditions over southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep - Maldives area and equatorial Indian Ocean will be rough to very rough on May 14 and 15.

The IMD has also advised the fishermen to return to the coast by May 12 night.
