CRPF Destroys 162 IEDs In Bihar's Aurangabad During Intensive Operations Against Maoists

The CRPF discovered and destroyed 162 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Bihar's Aurangabad.

New Delhi: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) discovered 162 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during intensive operations against Maoists in Bihar's Aurangabad. According to ANI, the police destroyed 13 IEDs in Aurangabad, following which they discovered 149 IEDs weighing a kilogram each in a nearby cave.

The police destroyed these 149 IEDs too. 

The CRPF said that operations continue in Maoist-prone areas to search and recover planted arms and ammunition, ANI report said. 

The development comes just days after the CRPF and police recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, during a joint operation. These were hidden at multiple locations in the area forest area of Madanpur police station in Aurangabad, ANI reported.

Meanwhile, three Maoists including a woman surrendered before the Odisha Police in Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri district on January 26, according to IANS.

The surrendered Maoists are Manoj alias Mati Madhi (24), Pandu Kabasi (27) and Aite Karttami (21). All three are residents of Daldali village under the Mathili police station of Malkangiri district. Each of the three was carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on their heads.

Earlier this month, six CRPF personnel were injured in an IED blast during a search and encounter with Naxals in Chaibasa town of Jharkhand's Singhbhum district.

According to the police, Naxals triggered the blast when personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), its Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA), Jharkhand Jaguar of the state police and the district armed police were conducting an anti-Naxal operation in the forest.

According to the police, the Left Wing Extremists opened fire at the security forces when they advanced toward them.
