Covid-19 Crisis: Delhi Govt Extends Water Bill Waiver Scheme By Three Months Till September 30

While announcing the scheme last year in August, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had mentioned that 10.5 lakh people living in these colonies will be benefited by this move

New Delhi: In the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government on Tuesday extended its scheme offering a one-time waiver of water bill arrears and late payment surcharge for next three months till, September 30. ALSO READ | Plasma Therapy: Delhi Gears Up To Fight Covid-19 Cases With Plasma Bank; Maharashtra Launches Trial Cum Treatment Project The Vice Chairman of Delhi Jal Board and Rajinder Nagar MLA, Raghav Chadha announced the development today in the evening and shared a copy of the official notice on his Twitter account rolling out the statement around the latest amendments in the scheme. "In wake of Covid-19 outbreak the water bill waiver scheme of@DelhiJalBoardhas been extended by three months and will now end on 30th Sept 2020." Raghav Chadha tweeted, adding that the move will benefit those who have not been able to avail the scheme due to lockdown restrictions. Announcing the scheme last year, CM Arvind Kejriwal had said that water arrears of consumers having functional domestic meters residing in category - E, F, G and H colonies in the city will be waived off by the government. There are eight categories of colonies in Delhi - A to H. The colonies under category A-D are considered as middle and upper-middle residential areas. Places such as Maharani Bagh, Chanakyapuri and Golf Links fall under 'A' category for which, 25 per cent rebate is given on their principal arrears. For the colonies under category 'C', 50 per cent waiver is provided. Where as for 'D' category colonies, people get a waiver of 75 per cent on their principal pending arrears. Some of these arrears are due to consumers but some are also due to incorrect billing." The Chief Minister mentioned that 10.5 lakh people living in these colonies will be benefited by this move. He also added that the late payment surcharge will also be waived off for those consumers who get their functional meters installed by November 30.
