Covid-19: Maharashtra Reports Record-Breaking Fresh Caseloads, Delhi Witnesses Highest Spike Of The Year

In the wake of the Coronavirus situation, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold an "urgent" meeting on Friday to prepare an action plan.

Mumbai: Maharashtra has on Thursday reported 43,183 new Covid-19 cases, once again the highest single-day rise since the pandemic began. This has pushed the total caseload to 28,56,163.

249 deaths have also been reported making another grim record of being highest since October last year, taking the total fatalities to 54,898.

Previously, the highest one-day spike was reported on March 28 with 40,414 cases. Meanwhile, 32,641 patients have been discharged, also the highest so far, taking the recoveries to 24,33,368.

The number of active patients is currently at 3,66,533.

The capital city of Maharashtra has reported 8,646 new Covid-19 cases, which is also its highest single-day rise since the pandemic began. The new infections have taken Mumbai's caseload to 4,23,419. Besides this, 18 Covid deaths were recorded that have pushed the toll to 11,708.

Meanwhile, as Covid-19 cases surge in the country, national capital Delhi is also witnessing a spike as it reported 2,790 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the highest single-day count for the union territory this year.

According to the health department, nine more people died due to the coronavirus infection with which the death toll increased to 11,036.

In the wake of this situation, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold an "urgent" meeting with the health minister and officials of concerned departments to prepare an action plan for meeting the challenge.

"CM office to hold an urgent meeting at 4 pm tomorrow (Friday), Health Minister Satyendar Jain and other department officials to remain present," informed a statement from the chief minister's office.

The action plan will also address issues like the number of containment zones, vaccination drive, and requisite availability of hospital beds.

"The chief minister is keeping a close eye on the situation in Delhi, and is ensuring a daily review by receiving regular updates from the officials," the statement read.

According to this communique, in 33 private hospitals, there has been a 25 percent increase in the number of ICU beds and beds in normal wards reserved for Coronavirus patients.

Health officials will also be tracing up to minimum 30 contacts of people who test Covid positive.
