Cost Of Food Items At Parliament Canteen To Go Up As Subsidy Comes To An End

New Delhi: The cost of food items served in Parliament canteens for MPs and others is going to rise up as its subsidy has been stopped, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Tuesday. ALSO READ | PM Modi To Celebrate Netaji's Birth Anniversary In Kolkata Ahead Of Crucial West Bengal Polls

According to estimates, the Lok Sabha Secretariat will be able to save more than Rs 8 crore annually as the subsidy comes to an end.

Talking about preparations for the next Parliament session that begins on January 29, Birla also said the Parliament canteens will now be run by ITDC (Indian Tourism Development Corporation) replacing Northern Railways.

Here are the old subsidised rates of food items at the Parliament Canteen:

As per norms, all Members of Parliament will be requested to undergo the Coronavirus test ahead of the Budget session commencement.

While Rajya Sabha will sit from 9 am to 2 pm, Lok Sabha will function in the second half from 4 pm to 8 pm. The Question Hour will take place during the session for a fixed time of one hour.

The speaker revealed that all arrangements have also been made for the RT-PCR tests of MPs to be conducted near their residence. 

In Parliament premises, the RT-PCR tests will be conducted on January 27 and 28. There are arrangements made for families and staff members of MPs to be tested.

The vaccination drive policy finalised by the union government and states will also apply to parliamentarians.
