Coronavirus: Doubling Rate Of COVID-19 Cases In India Stands At 4.1 days, Says Health Ministry
The doubling rate at present is 4.1 days. But if the additional cases reported due to the Tablighi Jamaat event had not taken place, then the doubling rate would have been 7.4 days.
New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday said the number of Coronavirus cases in India is doubling faster because of the Tablighi Jamaat event held in Delhi’s Nizamuddin last month.
Lav Agrawal Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, during the daily media briefing said, "Our doubling rate at present is 4.1 days. But if the additional cases reported due to the Tablighi Jamaat event had not taken place, then the doubling rate would have been 7.4 days.
However the government assured that there was no need to panic as the rate of spread was less than in many other countries and just "one place" accounted for 30 per cent of detected cases.
The government further said that at least 1,023 confirmed cases of infection are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in the national capital last month, but massive efforts by various authorities have led to nearly 22,000 people linked to the religious grouping and their primary contacts getting quarantined.
This comes a day after when Aggarwal had said that out of the total cases Coronavirus in the country, around 30 per cent are epidemiologically linked to Tablighi Jamaat event, which took place at Nizamuddin.
With 472 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the country has gone up to 3,374, said the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Sunday.
Aggarwal further informed that the Cabinet Secretary held a meeting on COVID-19 and all DMs have instructed pharma units making devices, medicines must run efficiently.
