Coronavirus Pandemic: 1,813 New Cases Take India's Tally To 31,787; Death Toll Crosses 1,000-Mark

Maharashtra remains to continue the worst-hit state with a number of cases rising to 9.318, followed by Gujarat (3,774) and Delhi (3,314), according to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Health on Wednesday evening revealed the updated number of Coronavirus cases which says with 1,813 new cases and 71 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of Covid-19 cases in the country scaled to 31,787. As of now there are 22,982 active cases of Coronavirus, in which 7,796 people have recovered, and 1,008 people succumbed to Covid-19. Maharashtra still remains to continue the worst-hit state with a number of cases rising to 9,318 followed by Gujarat (3,774) and Delhi (3,314), according to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Maharashtra has also recorded 400 deaths, the highest number of casualties among all the states. Other states that which have crossed the 2,000-mark are Madhya Pradesh (2,561), Rajasthan (2,364), Tamil Nadu (2,058) and Uttar Pradesh (2,115). Andhra Pradesh has recorded 1,332 cases and 31 deaths; Bihar, 383 cases and two deaths; Haryana, 310 cases and 3 deaths; Jammu and Kashmir, 565 cases and 8 deaths; Karnataka 532 cases and 20 deaths; and Kerala 486 cases and four deaths. Tripura, Mizoram, Puducherry, Manipur, Goa and Arunachal Pradesh have reported less than 10 cases. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases across the globe has crossed the 3 million-mark, and toll has crossed 200,000. Currently, India is in the last week of the 40-day nationwide lockdown, which is scheduled to end on 3 May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended a nationwide lockdown until 3 May to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. Although, most of the states are recommending to extend the lockdown. Punjab government has already announced on Wednesday about the extension of lockdown in the state by two weeks after May 3. The Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said there will be relaxations in the non-containment and non-red zones with strict adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols. Earlier, Telangana had announced that it was extending the lockdown in the state till 7 May.
