Congress Slams Centre Over Afghanistan Crisis, Demands Modi Govt To Spell Out Its Policy On Taliban

Alleging that the government is indulging in the "lowest level of diplomacy" Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said that it is merely resorting to "disaster management".

New Delhi: Even as the final picture of the new Taliban government remains to be under curtains, Congress on Saturday slammed the Modi government and asked it to spell out before the country its policy on Afghanistan and the new regime.

Alleging that the government is indulging in the "lowest level of diplomacy" Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said that it is merely resorting to "disaster management".

"Please let us know, what is your policy regarding Afghanistan? What is your policy regarding the Taliban? Please share with the country," PTI qouted Vallabh as saying.

"This is the lowest level of diplomacy because you don't have any diplomacy, you don't have any policy. You are just trying to do with disaster management," Vallabh said adding that every India has the right to know about the government's policy on Afghanistan.

The Congress leader also expressed concern over "Afghanistan-Pakistan-Russia triangle" and asked how Modi government plans to deal with it.

"How are they are going to play? What is their intention? What is your policy to counter this triangle, which Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia are forming in Afghanistan?" the leader said.

He also pointed out that neither External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar nor his ministry has spelt out the policy on Afghanistan so far.

"What is your policy on Afghanistan. The country wants to know, please don't mislead us," he said, noting that India has a major investment in Afghanistan.

Further training guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vallabh said that he (PM Modi) is a Master's in political science and since this is a political issue, he should spell out his views on Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the government has so far said that the situation in Afghanistan is very critical after the Taliban's seizure of power on August 15 and evacuating the remaining Indians was the top priority of the government.

So far, India has evacuated 175 embassy personnel, 263 Indian nationals, 112 Afghan nationals of Hindu and Sikh communities, and 15 nationals from third countries have been evacuated, Jaishankar had informed at an all-party meeting last month.
