'Congress Equally Responsible For Demolition': Owaisi Responds To Kamal Nath's Remarks On Babri Masjid

Responding to Kamal Nath's remarks, Owaisi said it once again shows the Congress had an equal role in the Babri Masjid demolition.

New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday said that Congress’s role in Babri Masjid demolition was similar to that of BJP and RSS. Owaisi’s assertion comes a day after Congress Madhya Pradesh chief Kamal Nath, in an interview with The Indian Express, said the BJP should not claim credit for the Ram temple at Ayodhya and that Rajiv Gandhi's role should not be forgotten.

“Taala khola...Rajiv Gandhi got the locks opened. Let's not forget history. The Ram temple does not belong to any one party or person, but to the country and to every citizen. The BJP wants to usurp the Ram temple as its property. They were in government, they built it. Apne ghar se toh banaya nahin hai. Government ke paise se banaya hai (The BJP hasn’t built it with their own money. It’s the government’s money),” The Indian Express quoted Kamal Nath as saying.

Responding to the veteran Congress leader’s remarks, Owaisi said it once again shows the grand old party had an equal role in the Babri Masjid demolition.

“Kamal Nath has once again proved my point as well as that of thousands and lakhs of others that Congress had an equal role in the demolition of Babri Masjid. Kamal Nath has proved that Congress had an equal role in snatching Babri Masjid along with BJP-RSS. From (19)48-49 to December 6, 1992, Congress had equal role in demolition,” news agency PTI quoted Owaisi as saying.

Taking a dig at both the Congress and the BJP, the AIMIM leader said he would want to ask Rahul Gandhi whether his father got the locks of Babri Masjid opened when he was the Prime Minister and said he "hopes" that Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes the former along when he goes to Ayodhya in January next year.

“The work his (Rahul Gandhi) father started, Modi ji is completing. So, the Prime Minister should take Rahul Gandhi along with him. It will be a 'Ram-Shyam' pair,” PTI quoted Owaisi as saying.

Meanwhile, responding to Kamal Nath’s remarks, BJP leader Prahlad Patel, as quoted by ANI said, “Congress is nervous and making another mistake. I consider it a crime to repeat the kind of derogatory words used by Congress against Ram Janamabhoomi. Congress should be held accountable.”
