Congress Can't Fight Alone, Need Oppn Unity To Fight Against This Dictatorial Govt: MP KC Venugopal

Taking a dig at the ruling BJP govt, Congress leader KC Venugopal stated "Congress will fight at any cost but we need opposition unity to fight against this anti-democratic, dictatorial govt."

New Delhi: Congress on Monday said that the party is concerned about the opposition unity but it alone can't fight the BJP government and need "opposition unity to fight against this anti-democratic, dictatorial govt."

Speaking to ANI, Congress General Secretary, KC Venugopal, said, "Congress is concerned about the opposition unity. Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge rightly pointed out on several occasions that in the present situation, Congress alone can't fight this govt."

Taking a dig at the ruling government, Venugopal stated "Congress will fight at any cost but we need opposition unity to fight against this anti-democratic, dictatorial govt. The way in which they are missing the agencies, including the media. So there is a need for opposition unity to fight against these forces."

Speaking of the opposition parties that did not take part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said that "though we had so many experiences which hurt us, we're ready to forget everything for removing this dictatorial govt."

"Our effort is very sincere for opposition unity. Even though we had so many experiences which hurt us, we're ready to forget everything for removing this dictatorial govt. We're totally for unity in opposition," he added.

He further stated, "In the last Parliament session, our president took initiative for calling all like-minded parties and have a single voice in the Parliament against this Adani issue. We are broadly thinking that we should go against BJP & not give a chance to split anti-BJP votes."

Speaking of '50 under 50', he said that Congress is very cautious about each and every office bearer, stating that Congress is very clear in the view that 50% of office bearers should be under 50 years of age.

"50 under 50' is a decision of Udaipur Chintan Shivir. After the Chintan Shivir Declaration, we are very much particular about each and every office bearer. There should be a sufficient representation of youngsters below 50 years of age," he said.

He further said, "We can't do this in one fortnight. Some time is needed for the complete fulfillment of the target. But we are in the process. We are of the clear view that 50% of office bearers should be under 50 years of age"
