Chetan Bhagat apologises after screenshot of him flirting with female journalist goes viral
"I have decided to woo you. Please be wooed", Bhagat had texted the journalist in the screenshots that he claims to be several years old.
New Delhi: Indian writer Chetan Bhagat who found himself in soup after screenshots of his conversation with a female journalist went viral, has apologised on social media.
After the screenshots of the conversation where the writer was clearly trying to hit on the journalist who he knew only in ‘professional capacity’ went viral, Bhagat came up with an apology note which he posted on Facebook.
The screenshots of Bhagat trying to “woo” the woman came days after Bhagat’s response to Tanushree Dutta’s allegations of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar. Bhagat had said on Thursday. He had said it would be wrong to reduce actor Tanushree Dutta's sexual harassment allegations against Nana Patekar to a "he said, she said" story. He said it has become a broader issue and needs to be addressed for good now.
However, just a day after that, the screenshots of him trying to flirt with this journalist emerged and Bhagat had to apologise to the person concerned and his wife of 20 years Anusha. He admitted to having had the conversation.
He wrote “first of all, I am really sorry to person concerned. The screenshots, are of course real, and I am sorry if you felt they were wrong I hope you will accept my apology.” Further in the note Chetan wrote: “It was stupid of me, to feel that way and to even share that with her. I just told Anusha about it as well, and apologised to her for doing the same.” Here is his post: Here is how people have responded to the entire controversy. While some of them bashed Bhagat, there were some who said harmless flirting should not be construe as harassment. For context the person in question is a journalist he had only met in a professional capacity. https://t.co/WDLY0vAmJ5

The author is coming up with a new book titled The Girl in Room 105.Oh boy! And I thought just the books were bad ???? #ChetanBhagat Of course there wasn't a hint of harassment or assault but the messages are outright creepy and shows how many (if not most Indian men) married adulterers behave. Waiting now to see more idols get unmasked. https://t.co/z2ec630qmj
