Chennai Air Show 2024: Don't Miss Indian Air Force's Mega Event For Tomorrow — Full Details

The Indian Air Force's airshow will feature 72 aircraft originating from IAF bases in Sulur, Thanjavur, Tambaram, Arakkonam and Bengaluru, all converging over the East Coast.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to showcase its full air defense capabilities in a spectacular airshow over Chennai's iconic Marina Beach on October 6, as part of the 92nd IAF Day celebrations. For the first time in 21 years, Chennai will host this event, with a grander display than ever before, highlighting India’s prowess in air combat and modern technology.

The airshow will feature 72 aircraft originating from IAF bases in Sulur, Thanjavur, Tambaram, Arakkonam, and Bengaluru, all converging over the East Coast. Among the aircraft on display will be India's pride, the indigenously built Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas and the Light Combat Helicopter Prachand, alongside cutting-edge fighter jets like the Rafale and Sukhoi-30 MkI. The Suryakiran Aerobatics Team and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team will also perform breathtaking aerial maneuvers.

A Historic Return To Chennai

The IAF has moved its celebrations to different regions in recent years with last year's event held in Prayagraj and the previous year in Chandigarh. The decision to hold this year's event in Chennai is part of the IAF’s ongoing effort to bring the show closer to the public, allowing more citizens to witness its air capabilities firsthand.

The Indian Air Force will also attempt a Limca Book of Records at Chennai's Marina Beach on Sunday. With an estimated 1.5 million spectators expected to attend the two-hour airshow from 11 AM, the IAF aims to make history by securing a spot in the Limca Book of Records for the largest audience at an airshow in India.

In preparation for the airshow, Chennai International Airport (MAA) has been experience periodic airspace closures between October 1 and 8. These closures will range from 15 minutes to two hours with the longest disruption on October 6, the day of the airshow, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Passengers are advised to plan accordingly to avoid delays.
