(The ABP News-CVoter survey was carried out in the fourth week of January in Uttar Pradesh and the sample size achieved was 6,086)
New Delhi: Ahead of the grand launch of Priyanka Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh by the Congress on February 11, ABP News in partnership with C-Voter has commissioned a survey to gauge how impactful will her presence be in the crucial state and the country.
With Priyanka’s formal entry into the Congress as general secretary and being given the charge of Eastern UP, 50% respondents believe the move will benefit the party all over the country. Although, 18% feel the Congress will only get a boost in Uttar Pradesh, the rest 24% opine she won’t have any bearing in the political battlefield.
A massive 52% of the respondents are of the opinion that Priyanka’s ascendancy will dent prospects of BJP in the upcoming general polls. 32% concede that the chances of the grand alliance (SP+BSP) will take a hit. 8% feel she will have no effect.
Commenting on the results, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that Priyanka is not a factor bothering them and the saffron party this time will ensure landslide victories in the Congress bastions of Amethi and Rae Bareli.
Surprisingly, 44% of respondents believe Priyanka Gandhi as Congress general secretary will in a way benefit the BJP, 51% feel otherwise. 5% have no say.
71% of the surveyed lot believes that BJP will cause self-harm by making personal remarks at Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra while 23% don’t think the same.
Two third of the respondents have a view that Priyanka has made a delayed entry into politics. 21% do not believe it’s late.
Reacting to the results, Congress leader Ragini Nayak said "Priyanka has all it takes to lead the Congress party in eastern UP and possesses leadership qualities of former PM Indira Gandhi." As per the survey, 50% feel that Rahul Gandhi failed as Congress President because of which Priyanka was pitchforked into a major role. 46% do not stand by the view. With Priyanka coming into the Congress, 38% have said they will vote for BJP. 33% have said they would prefer the grand alliance while the rest 18% will back the Congress. On the key finding, Ragini said, "people from all castes and religions will vote for the Congress. Logically speaking, be it the Congress or the grand alliance, it is certain that that the BJP will lose seats compared to what it achieved it in 2014." Even as the Congress and some of the other parties are pitching Rahul Gandhi for the top post, 56% of the surveyed people totally believe that Priyanka has the credentials to govern the country as a prime minister. However, 29% do not support the belief that she’s PM material.
