Suspension Of Opposition MPs To Be Revoked Ahead Of Budget Session Tomorrow

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that the suspension imposed on opposition MPs in Parliament will be revoked which will enable them to come to the House from Wednesday.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday said the Opposition MPs who were suspended from Parliament will be able to attend the House as their suspensions would be revoked. The decision came after an all-party meeting ahead of Thursday's Budget session. 

The Opposition leaders were suspended during the Winter Session for allegedly causing disruptions in House proceedings. They were demanding a debate on the security breach in Parliament that happened on December 13.

When asked about the revocation of suspensions, Pralhad Joshi said that all of them would be revoked. He said that he spoke with both Lok Sabha Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman and requested them on behalf of the government.

"...This is the jurisdiction of the Speaker and the Chairman. So, we have requested both of them to speak with the concerned privileged committees, revoke the suspension and give them the opportunity to come to the House. Both of them agreed," the Union Minister said.

On being questioned if the suspended MPs will be able to attend Parliament tomorrow, he confirmed "yes".

Joshi stated that the suspensions were a result of the Opposition leaders' actions, who brought placards and disrupted the House despite a unanimous decision in front of the Speaker.

The upcoming budget session is scheduled to happen from January 31 to February 9. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present an interim budget on February 1.
