Priyanka Gandhi Won't Contest 2024 Polls, To Focus On Cong Campaigning, May Enter Rajya Sabha

Presently, preparations are on to send Priyanka Gandhi to Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh as it is decided that she will not contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will not contest the Lok Sabha elections slated to take place in 2024. The decision was taken in the meeting of senior party leaders with UPA chairperson and Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi, sources said. Instead of contesting the Lok Sabha elections, Priyanka Gandhi will campaign in favor of the party and its allies across the country. Additionally, Priyanka Gandhi will not be limited to campaigning in Uttar Pradesh, she may enter Rajya Sabha before the 2024 General elections.

Presently preparations are on to send the Congress General Secretary to Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh.

A Rajya Sabha MP from Chhattisgarh offered to resign to give way for Priyanka to become a member of the Upper House. Similar offers have been made by two other Rajya Sabha MPs of the party.

One of these Rajya Sabha MPs has also confirmed his offer in an informal conversation with ABP News.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi held discussions with some prominent leaders of the party a few days back regarding Priyanka Gandhi's course ahead. Most of the leaders were of the opinion that she can prove to be an asset as a star campaigner.

In such a situation, she should not contest the Lok Sabha elections, they opined, as she will have to focus on her seat if she contests the crucial polls and will not be able to spend much time elsewhere.

Leaders believe the party is expected to benefit more if Priyanka Gandhi campaigns for their candidates.

Although some leaders were of the opinion that by contesting the Lok Sabha elections, Priyanka would emerge as a big face in the polls, sources said.

Most of the leaders were also of the opinion that the Congress party should not project anyone as the PM face in the Lok Sabha elections, as this would give more confidence to the allies to join the UPA alliance.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra May Not Remain Congress In-Charge Of UP

As per inputs, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may also leave the post of UP Congress in-charge. She can now be given the responsibility of those states where there is more potential for the grand old party or she can be made in-charge of other states along with UP.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's new role will be decided before assembly elections to be held in five states.

No Gandhi Family Member To Contest From Amethi Seat, Decision On Rae Bareli Pending

For the time being, it has also been decided that no member of the Nehru-Gandhi family will contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Amethi seat this time.

The family and the Congress party are no longer interested in the Amethi seat. The Congress may not even field its candidate from the seat. There is a high probability that the Congress may leave this seat for the allies if there is a grand alliance, sources said.

The party has not yet reached any concrete conclusion regarding the Rae Bareilly seat held by Sonia Gandhi. However, the Congress will field its candidate from the Rae Bareli seat even if there is an alliance. If the UPA chairperson does not contest the election, someone close to the Nehru-Gandhi family will be nominated as the Congress candidate from Rae Bareli.
