Cong Calls For 'Gujarat Bandh' Today Against Corruption, Unemployment
The Gujarat Congress has called for a symbolic 'bandh' between 8 am and noon on Saturday in the state to protest against price rise, corruption and unemployment, a party functionary said. The 'shutdown' announcement was made by Gujarat Congress in charge Raghu Sharma on August 26 while addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad.
In a statement issued on Friday, Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor appealed to traders, shopkeepers, cloth market workers, associations and small vendors to join the shutdown.
Thakor asked Congress workers to ensure no property is damaged during the bandh and to see that emergency services like ambulances etc are fully operational.
Army Chief To Visit Ladakh Today Amid India-China Disengagement
Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande will visit Ladakh today amid the ongoing disengagement process in the Gogra-Hot Springs area in Ladakh. Pande's visit comes hours after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday said that India and China will complete the disengagement process in the Gogra-Hotsprings area in eastern Ladakh by September 12.
The two sides have also agreed to take the talks forward and resolve remaining issues and restore peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in India-China border areas, the MEA said.
King Charles To Be Formally Proclaimed As King Today
Prince Charles III will be formally proclaimed as King at the Accession Council at 10 am local time on Saturday in the State Apartments of St. James's Palace, Buckingham Palace has said. It will mark the first time in history that the ceremony will be televised.
Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived, said her son and successor Charles in his maiden televised address to the grieving nation as Britain's King on Friday. King Charles III thanked his "darling mama" for her "love, affection, guidance and example”, as he expressed gratitude to the country's longest-serving monarch for her 70 years of service and spoke of the "profound grief" that had gripped the royal family and the nation with her passing away.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on phone today with British PM Liz Truss and congratulated her on assuming the office of the Prime Minister of UK. He also appreciated her contributions to the India-UK bilateral relationship in her previous roles, the PMO said.
On behalf of the people of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed deep condolences to the Royal family and the people of UK on the sad demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, PMO said.
