In a massive blow to Imran Khan, Pakistan's Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously struck down a controversial ruling by the deputy speaker on the rejection of a no-confidence motion against him and ordered restoration of the National Assembly, saying the Prime Minister's move to dissolve Parliament and call early elections was 'unconstitutional'.

The court ordered the speaker of the lower house to call the session of the national assembly on April 9 at 10 am (local time) to organise a no-confidence vote. It ordered the election of a new Prime Minister if the no-confidence motion succeeded.

The 193-member UN General Assembly on Thursday voted to adopt a draft resolution moved by the US to suspend Russia from the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council over allegations that Russian soldiers killed civilians while retreating from towns near the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

Meanwhile, India again abstained on a crucial vote to suspend Russia asserting that if New Delhi has "chosen" any side, it is the side of "peace and it is for an immediate end to violence."

Supreme Court will pass the order in the matter of the Mullaperiyar Dam, which was built in 1895 on the Periyar river in the Idukki district of Kerala on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that India stands ready to continue working with crsis-hit Sri Lanka for rapid post-Covid economic recovery in line with its 'Neighbourhood First' policy.

Since mid-March, over 2,70,000 MT of food and oil has been delivered to Sri Lanka. In addition, 40,000 tonnes of rice have been supplied under the recently-extended $1 billion credit line, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday ordered a probe into a video released by terror outfit Al-Qaeda lauding a girl who shouted 'Allahu Akbar' at a mob during the recent protests against the hijab ban in the state.
