BMC Issues Fresh Notice To Rana Couple Over ‘Illegal Construction’
The BMC, which listed out 10 illegalities in their house, had given the couple seven days to reply to the notice.
New Delhi: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued another notice to Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana regarding illegal construction in their house located in Mumbai’s Khar area, ANI reported. Earlier on May 10, the BMC had issued a show-cause notice to the Rana couple under Section 351(1A) of the Municipal Corporation Act. The Shiv Sena-ruled corporation had issued the show-cause notice for unauthorised alterations to the approved plans at their Khar residence on the eighth floor of the Lavie building.
The BMC, which listed out 10 illegalities in their house, had given the couple seven days to reply to the notice.
The couple was asked to justify why the alterations should remain and prove further that the work that was done was authorised.
Earlier on May 2, the BMC had issued a house inspection notice to the Rana couple under Section 488 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888. The section allows the civic body to inspect any premise to check for illegalities.
The Ranas have been at odds with the Maharashtra government after they called for reciting the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ outside Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence Matoshree.
The Ranas were arrested by the Mumbai Police earlier on April 23 after they announced they will recite the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ outside the Chief Minister’s private residence in suburban Bandra.
Special Judge R N Rokade had later on May 5 granted bail to the couple while imposing certain conditions, including that they must not make any statements to the press related to the case.
The judge had also said that the bail will be forfeited if the couple committed similar offences again.
