'BJP Workers Being Targetted': Nadda Pays Tribute To Local Party Leader Killed By Suspected Naxalites In Chhattisgarh

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda paid tribute to Narayanpur BJP district vice-president Sagar Sahu, who was shot dead by some people in his house a day back and met the bereaved family in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, news agency ANI reported.

“Sad that a senior colleague, Sagar Sahu who was our district vice-president, was brutally killed by Naxals. We're all grief-stricken. Under the current government in Chhattisgarh, Naxal attacks are rising. BJP workers are being targetted. We lost three colleagues within a month,” ANI quoted Nadda as saying.

“It shows the law and order situation here. I was told that he had alerted the Police but the local Police had taken no action. Sagar Sahu was not alone, crores of BJP workers stand with the family. We will take care of them. But the loss can't be compensated for,” Nadda added.

Notably, the incident took place around 8 pm on Friday when Sagar Sahu was at his home in Chhotedongar village.

According to a report by news agency PTI, two unidentified persons barged into Sahu's house and shot him in front of his family members. The injured Sahu was rushed to the Narayanpur district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

“Prima facie the incident seems to be the handiwork of Naxalites but investigation is underway,” police added.

Earlier, on Sunday, Neelkanth Kakem president of Awapalli mandal unit of the BJP, was killed, allegedly by Naxalites, in Bijapur district, PTI reported.

BJP chief Nadda, who is on a day-long visit to poll-bound Chhattisgarh, offered prayers at Maa Danteshwari Temple in Jagdalpur earlier in the day. He was accompanied by former CM Raman Singh.

Later, he also paid tribute to BJP ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay on his 55^th death anniversary at the party office. He also addressed a public rally in the railway ground.
