Smriti Irani Calls Rahul Gandhi 'Politically Unproductive', Says He Shouldn't Curb Parliament Productivity

Smriti Irani alleging Rahul Gandhi's political history has been dotted with showing "disrespect to parliamentary procedures" is now adamant to bring down the productivity of Lok Sabha.

Monsoon Parliament Session: BJP took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as opposition protests on inflation disrupted Parliament proceedings on Tuesday. Saying the Congress leader may have been "politically unproductive" but he should not try to curb the legislature's productivity.

Union minister Smriti Irani alleging Rahul Gandhi's political history has been dotted with showing "disrespect to parliamentary procedures" is now adamant to bring down the productivity of Lok Sabha, she told reporters on Wednesday.

"He's the one to have less than 40% attendance in Parliament...Today, the person who's been politically unproductive is dedicating himself to ensure there's no debate in Parliament," BJP leader Smriti Irani said.

"He may be unproductive politically but he should not dare to continuously curb Parliament's productivity," she added.

Parliament's monsoon session has seen little business since it started on Monday due to opposition members, including from the Congress, disrupting its proceedings over issues like fresh GST on certain food items and price rises in general.

The government and the opposition have accused each other of running away from debate on critical issues facing the country.

Irani also took a dig at him over his frequent foreign visits and said this has become a matter of worry for his own party.
