BJP’s Roopa Ganguly Breaks Down In RS Over Birbhum Arson, Demands Prez Rule In Bengal | WATCH

“We demand President's rule in West Bengal. Mass killings are happening there, people are fleeing the place... the state is no more liveable,” ANI reported Ganguly as saying in the Rajya Sabha.

New Delhi: Expressing concerns over the violence in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Roopa Ganguly broke down in the Rajya Sabha on Friday and demanded imposition of President’s rule in the Trinamool Congress (TMC)-ruled state.

The actress-turned-politician said “mass killings” are happening in West Bengal, which is no more “liveable”.

“We demand President's rule in West Bengal. Mass killings are happening there, people are fleeing the place... the state is no more liveable,” ANI reported Ganguly as saying in the Rajya Sabha.

The BJP MP later alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led government is “protecting the murderers”.

“People can't speak in West Bengal. Govt is protecting the murderers. There is no other state where government kills people after winning elections,” Ganguly told the news agency on her breakdown in the Rajya Sabha.

“We are human beings. We don't do stone-hearted politics,” she added.

Earlier in the day, the Calcutta High Court Friday ordered a CBI investigation into the Birbhum arson and directed the investigating agency to file the progress report by April 7.

The comes after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed demanding an inquiry by a central agency.

The case was so far being investigated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state government.

Eight people, including two children, were charred to death earlier on Tuesday after a mob set houses on fire in Bogtui village in Birbhum district following the killing of local TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh.

This incident has stirred a political row with the BJP escalating its attack on the TMC.

Earlier on Wednesday, Banerjee Wednesday hit back at the BJP and said that the incident was an attempt to defame her government.
