New Delhi: With only months left for forthcoming general elections, a report in Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, stated that Bharatiya Janta Party may not give tickets to 130-150 incumbent party MPs. In 2014, the BJP won 282 Lok Sabha seats in the general elections.
As per the paper's Sources, candidature of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is likely to be held back due to her illness. Uma Bharati, Radha Mohan Singh and Sumitra Mahajan have informed Party that they will not contest the elections. Also, Murli Manohar Joshi, Karia Munda, Shanta Kumar and Khanduri will not be fielded due to their age.
The report further said, the party is likely to take an official decision regarding the same soon as it is apprehensive of the changing political scenario in the country. Anti-incumbency is also a factor which is concerning the party leadership. The BJP will consider betting on young and new faces for the crucial 2019 polls.
The move is likely to be necessitated as various opposition parties have been coming together to fight against BJP and Prime Minister Modi. Commenting on the same, even PM Modi in an interview said that “Opposition has no agenda, but to remove Modi”.
