BJP Registers Complaint Against Congress' Nana Patole For His 'Can Beat Up Modi' Remark
Patole was seen addressing the people of Bhandara village in Marathi saying, “I can beat Modi, I can badmouth him. Which is why he came to campaign against me."
BJP MLA Chandrashekhar Bawankule has filed a complaint against Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole in Nagpur after his comment on PM Modi. A video of Patole went viral on Monday in which he could be seen badmouthing PM Modi.
Patole was seen addressing the people of Bhandara village in Marathi saying, “I can beat Modi, I can badmouth him. Which is why he came to campaign against me."
Although Patole later clarified that he was not addressing Modi, rather referred to a local goon who shared the same surname. "Let me clarify again that I was not talking about the Prime Minister, but about a local goon named Modi," PTI quoted Patole as saying.
Later, Maharashtra Congress also clarified Patole’s comments by saying, "People of Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patoleji’s constituency was complaining about a local goon who is known as Modi. Whatever Patole Ji said it was about him and not about honourable PM Narendra Modiji," tweeted Maharashtra Congress general secretary Atul Londhe Patil.
The incident led to a fierce word war between BJP and Congress as former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said in a tweet, “Now, the Maharashtra Congress chief says he can beat up Modi and badmouth him. What is happening with the Congress. The party, which at some point of time, was involved in the freedom struggle, has stopped this low.”
Maharashtra BJP also took out a rally and raised slogans of "Nana Patole Murdabad" against Patole in Palghar for his remarks against PM Modi. BJP workers said this is an insult to the integrity of the Prime Minister's position and attacked the Congress party. Considering the outbirst that may take place from BJP workers, security has been increased outside Patole's residence.
