BJP Lambasts Rahul Gandhi Over Kathmandu Nightclub Video, Congress Says Not A Crime To Attend 'Marriage Event'

BJP’s IT cell in-charge Amit Malviya trained guns at the Congress leader while sharing the clip on Twitter.

New Delhi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) went all ballistic against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after an undated video of him partying at a nightclub in Kathmandu, Nepal, went viral on social media.

BJP’s IT cell in-charge Amit Malviya trained guns at the Congress leader while sharing the clip on Twitter.

“Rahul Gandhi was at a nightclub when Mumbai was under seize. He is at a nightclub at a time when his party is exploding. He is consistent. Interestingly, soon after the Congress refused to outsource their presidency, hit jobs have begun on their Prime Ministerial candidate…,” Malviya wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

Taking potshots at Gandhi, Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju said regular parties, vacations, holidays, pleasure trips and private foreign visits are nothing new to the nation now.

“Regular Parties, Vacations, Holidays, Pleasure Trips, Private Foreign Visits etc are nothing new to the nation now. As a private citizen there's no issue at all but when an MP, a permanent boss of a national political party who keeps preaching others.....,” he tweeted.

North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari took a jibe at the Congress leadership while sharing the video on Twitter.

“Now the party is left. The crisis is on the party, not on the family,” the BJP leader said in a tweet in Hindi.

Commenting on the matter, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that he has not yet seen the video.

Hussain, however, added that Gandhi parties every day and no one stops him anyway.

“The constitution doesn't have any such rule where anyone can be stopped from partying. He parties more and works less for his party,” he said, ANI reported.

The Congress came to Gandhi’s rescue post the criticism with party general secretary Randeep Surjewala stating he went to a friendly country Nepal to participate in a private marriage function of a friend, who also happens to be a journalist.

“Last I checked, having family and friends and attending marriage ceremonies is a matter of our culture and civilization,” he added, ANI reported.

Surjewala said it has still not become a crime in this country to attend a marriage celebration.

“May be after today, the BJP may decide it is illegal to attend a marriage and a crime to have friends,” Surjewala said.

“But do let me know so that we can change our status and civilizational practices of attending marriages of our friends and family members,” he added.

The undated video shows Gandhi accompanied by a friend at a dimly lit nightclub with people dancing to loud music in the background.
