Maharashtra: 100 Birds Die In Thane As Threat Of H5N1 Looms Large
Bird flu cases have been detected after the death of around 100 birds at a poultry farm in Shahpur recently in Maharashtra's Thane district.
New Delhi: Bird flu cases have been detected after the death of around 100 birds at a poultry farm was recorded in Shahpur in the Thane district of Maharashtra. Thane Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Bhausaheb Dangde said, "Recently, about 100 birds died in a poultry farm in Vehroli village of Shahpur tehsil. Their samples were sent to a laboratory in Pune for testing and the results confirmed that the birds died due to H5N1 avian influenza."
He said that around 25,000 birds being reared in poultry farms in the one-kilometre area of the affected farm will be killed in the next few days.

Dangde said that the animal husbandry department of the district will take measures to prevent the spread of the infection to other birds. He said the Union Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry has been informed about the bird flu cases here.
Thane DM and Collector Rajesh J. Narvekar said, "Around 100 chickens died suddenly of bird flu in a poultry farm in Vehloli village of Shahpur tehsil of Thane district. Their samples have been sent to a laboratory in Pune." The district animal husbandry department has been ordered to take steps to control the infection.
