Big Relief For Tenants In Delhi! CM Arvind Kejriwal Announces Subsidised Electricity, To Issue Pre-Paid Meters

Just months ahead of the assembly elections that is scheduled early next year, Kejriwal on Tuesday extended power subsidy to the tenants in the city.

New Delhi: After announcing big relief in power and water tariffs for Delhiites, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today made a big announcement for house tenants living in the city. Just months ahead of the assembly elections that is scheduled early next year, Kejriwal on Tuesday extended power subsidy to the tenants. He announced that the Delhi Government has come up with a scheme 'Mukhyamantri Kirayedaar Bijli Meter Yojna' under which prepaid meters will be installed at rented accommodations. This policy for is applicable for domestic use only, CM said while addressing a press conference in the national capital today. "Tenants will have to get prepaid meter installed after depositing security money of ₹3,000," said Kejriwal. While addressing the press conference, Kejriwal said, "Among several states in the country, people in Delhi are getting electricity supply for 24 hours at the lowest prices and that of a better quality. People who live on rent, pay more for the electricity they use." "We are coming up with a policy for tenants. Prepaid meters will be installed for tenants from now on," he added. He said that for installing the pre-paid meters, a copy of the rent agreement will be sufficient. While addressing the media, Kejriwal said rent agreement and rent receipt will be needed to install the new electricity meters. Tenants across the city will not require any No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their landlords, said Kejriwal. The people will be able to call at 19122 BSES Yamuna, 19124 BSES rajdhani, 19124 Tata to get the meters installed. Earlier, the Delhi government had announced free electricity for people consuming up to 200 units per month. Those who consume between 201 and 400 units would be given a 50% subsidy by the state government. The free power decision is expected to cost ₹1,800-2,000 crore annually, Kejriwal said.
