Along with the priests, the Gandhi siblings participated in aarti at Brahmapuri ghat on the banks of the Narmada river while holding "diyas" (lamps).
Rahul Gandhi also made a "chunari" offering to the river before praying at a well-known Shiva temple that is one of the 12 "jyotirlings" in the nation.
Gandhi was dressed in a turban and had a stole with the word "Om" inscribed on it placed over his shoulders by priests.
Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi's husband, and their son Rehan participated in the aarti, for which Congress officials made extraordinary preparations, such as placing green carpets on the Ghat's stairs.
The police blocked people from entering Brahmapuri Ghat and ordered nearby businesses to close their shutters as part of security measures.
