West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's lost her younger brother today after he passed away due to Covid 19 on Saturday morning.
Medica Superpeciality Chairman, Dr Alok Roy informed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's younger brother Ashim Banerjee passed away today at the hospital. He had tested positive for COVID19 and was undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, on Friday, West Bengal recorded its highest single-day spike of 20,846 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 10,94,802.
The death toll in the state rose to 12,993 after 136 more people succumbed to COVID-19 infection on Friday, the state health department bulletin said.
Of the 136 deaths, 67 were due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental. North 24 Parganas district accounted for 42 fatalities and Kolkata 34.
