Bengal: 2 Killed In Gas Leak At A Factory In Khardaha Near Kolkata, Probe Underway

Two workers were killed in a gas leak at a factory in Khardaha near Kolkata on Wednesday, August 3. The incident happened at the factory on BT Road in North 24 Parganas district, the police said, as reported by PTI
According to initial reports, carbon monoxide gas leaked from the factory leading to the death of two persons. One other was taken ill and admitted to a nearby hospital, the Barrackpore police commissioner Ajoy Thakur said, reported PTI. The injured person is in a critical condition.

A case has been registered and police is investigating the gas leak incident at the factory.
The incident led to tension as locals raised concerns about the safety measures adopted by factories in the area.
Andhra Pradesh Gas Leak
In a similar incident, 121 people were admitted to various hospitals in Andhra Pradesh after a suspected gas leak at an apparel manufacturing unit in the Brandix Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Achutapuram district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
According to an initial diagnosis by experts, a gas called chlorpyrifos leaked from the factory causing the people to fall sick, reported ABP news. A high-level committee has been constituted to check for violations of safety standards in the industry.
The gas leak was reported at a seeds garment manufacturing company in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the Achutapuram area. This was the second such incident in two months.
No causalities have been reported so far and the victims are in stable condition.
