SIT Formed To Probe Death Of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Who Went Missing Near Kolkata

Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar was found dead in Kolkata on Wednesday after he entered India on May 12 and was last seen on May 13.

A Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe the death of Bangladeshi Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anar who was found dead in Kolkata on Wednesday. The Bangladeshi MP arrived in India on May 12 and was last seen on the afternoon of May 13 when he went with friends to a home in Bidhannagar near Kolkata from medical check-up. 

After Anwarul went missing, the Ministry of External Affairs urged the West Bengal government to investigate the matter, said Akhilesh Chaturvedi, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in the Crime Investigation Department (CID), reported ANI.

The IGP also said that the MP's daughter had tried to contact him but failed after which a missing person's complaint was filed at Kolkata's Barangar Police Station. 

"A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the case. We are trying our level best to solve this case. CID is investigating this matter," the police official told ANI.

Three persons have been detained in Bangladesh in connection with the case, according to sources in Bangladesh Police and the arrested individuals have confessed to their crime. The MP's body has not been found yet and an investigation is being jointly conducted by the police forces of Bangladesh and India. 

The circumstances leading to the death of the Bangladeshi lawmaker are not yet known. 

The Bangladeshi police source told ABP Ananda that blood stains were found in the New Town flat in the Sanjeeva Gardens apartment where he was last seen.

As per police sources, CCTV footage from the apartment showed three individuals leaving the flat alongside Anwarul, but the MP was not seen leaving.  

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her grief on Wednesday over the death of Anawarul. In a condolence message to the lawmaker's family, the PM prayed for the peace of his soul.
